Why Our Door Quotes Are Better

Far Too Often Door Installers’ Quotes Do NOT Match Up With What They Actually Do

The #1 problem we see with door quotes from other companies is that they are too vague.

And when a quote is vague, it is hard to know what you’ll actually end up paying for a replacement door.

Here are some specific examples of the typical problems we’ve seen with other door quotes:

Vague Quote Problem #1 – Quoting A Door That Won’t Fit

We’ve seen many instances where a big-box retailer will price out a door that won’t fit the opening – this is a surprisingly common problem! Once the error is discovered, you’ll have to get a different door that almost always costs more.

Vague Quote Problem #2 – Installation Not Included

We’ve had homeowners compare our quotes to another company’s quote, only to discover that ours includes installation while the other quote does not. We believe every door quote should include the cost of installation; otherwise it’s confusing at best and misleading at worst.

Vague Quote Problem #3 – Fails To Take Into Account The Finish You Want

The finish you want on the door is VERY important to your overall satisfaction of your replacement door. Maybe you’ll want one-color paint on the outside, but another color on the inside to match the interior of your home (called a ‘split-finish). Or maybe you want a special color. Whatever kind of finish you want, no door company should be giving you a quote without first determining exactly what you want.

Vague Quote Problem #4 – Hardware, Glass Choice, and Other Components Not Included

Here again is another instance where a quote is often not detailed enough. If a door quote does not include your choices on important components like hardware, glass, locking systems, etc., how could it possibly be accurate? We’ve seen many quotes where none of these things are accounted for.

Vague Quote Problem #5 – Failing To Educate A Homeowner On Door Material Being Quoted

There’s a big difference in the durability of fiberglass doors (very durable) and wood doors (not durable and terrible warranty). Despite that difference, many companies will quote out a wood door as if it is comparable to fiberglass. This important distinction is not explained, leaving a homeowner with no context to judge a quote fairly.

What All These Quote Problems Have In Common

There’s a common theme with all these problems: the company providing the quote has failed to nail down the details of exactly what they are quoting.

How on earth is a homeowner supposed to rely on a quote when it’s unclear exactly what’s included? Details matter!

We find that most companies who offer doors treat it as a sideline or as just one product among many, and therefore their knowledge is limited. Instead of digging into the details and calculating a fair and transparent quote, they take shortcuts.

The result is a vague quote that is very hard to compare to anything else.
